About Gretna Historical Society

Gretna Historical Society is located at 209 Lafayette St Gretna 70053, US

Welcome to the Gretna Historical Society – Gretna, Louisiana – Gretna Historical Society
The Gretna Historical Society was founded in Gretna, Louisiana, in 1969. The GHS operates the Gretna Historical Society Museum Complex on Lafayette Street. It consists of three 19th century Creole cottages, a blacksmith shop, and the Louisiana Fire Museum. Monthly meetings are held at the St. Joseph’s Auditorium at 7th and Newton Streets.
Gretna’s rich history began along the Mississippi River in McDonoghville, Mechanikham, and Gretna. These historic communities, alongside newer neighborhoods throughout the City, form the basis for Gretna’s identity, visual character, and architectural heritage.
